Author POV:
The sun, a pale ghost emerging from a sea of grey clouds, cast a sickly glow over the city as Deepika, burdened by the weight of morning chores and the lingering echoes of a disturbing nightmare, trudged through her day. The air, thick with the scent of burnt toast and the biting chill of her reality, held a suffocating weight. The upcoming interview, a beacon of hope in the wake of yesterday's failures due to her unfinished education, struggled to outshine the lingering presence of Sahor the unknown person in her mind."The echoes of her nightmare lingered in her mind, a haunting reminder of the emotions she couldn’t quite untangle—fear, longing, and a lingering, inexplicable connection to the unknown person she accidentally glimpsed remained with her."
As she poured water into a pot for tea, her heart raced at the memory of his piercing gaze. It was a fleeting moment, yet it ignited a flicker of hope in her otherwise bleak existence.
Deepika! Where’s my breakfast?’ Vihaan’s voice boomed, shattering the fragile peace of the morning. She flinched, her heart pounding against her ribs. As she served the meal, his eyes, cold and predatory, raked over her, a silent accusation of her inadequacy. A smirk twisted his lips, a chilling reminder of the power he held over her, the fear that simmered beneath the surface of his casual cruelty."Hope you don’t burn this too, or I might have to teach you a lesson again' he drawled, the threat hanging heavy in the air it made her tremble.
As soon as her father Rajvardhan sat at the head table of the dining table and asked her" Are you again going out"? he asked with the hint of anger.
She said"pa_pa y..yes actually today there is another interview so that's why I'm going out __"
“Enough with the excuses!” he barked, cutting her off. Vihaan smirked at his father’s outburst, while Tanvi rolled her eyes, clearly enjoying the spectacle. "Interview?” Rajvardhan scoffed, his brows furrowing in disbelief. “You think you’re worthy of a job? You’re a burden to this family, nothing more.”Deepika felt the heat of humiliation rise in her cheeks, but she didn't say anything and looked down .
Later that day, after enduring another tirade, Deepika finally received permission from her mother to leave the house. "The interview, a beacon of hope against the tide of yesterday's rejections born from her incomplete education, struggled to outshine the lingering ghost of Sahor, the unknown man whose eyes had held hers captive, a phantom haunting the edges of her thoughts."As she stepped outside, the world felt larger, more vivid, and she breathed in the fresh air, letting it fill her lungs for what felt like the first time.
Meanwhile, Sahor sat in his lavish office, the chaos of the outside world muted by thick glass walls. The failed Smithson deal had left his reputation on the line, and he was determined to reclaim his power. He leaned back in his chair, a scowl etched across his handsome features. His thoughts drifted to Deepika, the girl who had unknowingly captured his interest.
“Sir, we have a potential lead on the Smithson situation,” his associate, Arnish, interrupted, pulling Sahor from his reverie. “But we need to act fast. There are whispers of a rival gang moving in on our territory.”
Sahor’s eyes darkened, the familiar fire igniting within him. “Let them come. They’ll learn not to tread on my ground. But first, I want to know everything about that girl—Deepika. Something about her… it intrigues me.”
Arnish raised an eyebrow, sensing the shift in Sahor’s demeanor. “You mean the girl from the street?”
“Yes,” Sahor replied, his voice was low and intense. “I want her to be safe she seems very innocent to the world. Find out where she works and ensure she’s protected. I have plans for her.”
Back in the bustling streets, Deepika arrived at the café where her interview was set. The aroma of coffee and baked goods enveloped her, a stark contrast to the bitterness of her home. She straightened her back, determined to seize this opportunity. As she sat down at a table, a shadow loomed over her.
“Is this seat taken?” A voice cut through the noise, smooth and confident. Deepika looked up to find a man with sharp features and a devil-may-care smile. He was dressed impeccably, exuding an air of power that made her heart race. This was not Sahor, but someone equally captivating.
“I—uh, no,” she stammered, caught off guard.
“I’m Aryan,” he introduced himself, extending a hand. “I couldn’t help but notice you from across the room. You have an undeniable presence.”
A blush crept up Deepika's cheeks, an unfamiliar sensation given this was the first time anyone had complimented her looks. Yet, a tremor of fear, a lingering echo of past trauma with men, made her hesitate to extend her hand. Sensing her apprehension, he withdrew his with a warm smile. "Deepika," she offered, her voice slightly trembling.
Words flowed effortlessly between them, weaving a tapestry of shared laughter. For the first time, Deepika felt truly seen, not as a shadow or a burden, but as a woman worthy of respect. The tremor in her heart, a legacy of past fears, began to fade under the warmth of his gentle voice and playful jokes. Despite the self-imposed walls she'd built, a flicker of hope ignited within her. Perhaps, not all men were the same. Yet, amidst the blooming joy, she remained blissfully unaware of the watchful eyes of Sahor, who lurked in the shadows of the cafe, a silent observer with a gaze that flickered between curiosity and a possessiveness she couldn't quite decipher.
He departed with a warm farewell and a wish of good luck, yet his lingering presence, like a phantom limb, continued to haunt her mind. As the interview commenced, her thoughts flitted between the present, a beacon of hope, and the chilling shadows of her past. Would this be her escape, or would Sahor's inevitable discovery of Aryan shatter her fragile newfound peace?"
